Full Moon in Cancer ~ Wolf Moon

January 13th, 2025

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cancer; Latin root word being Karkinos, meaning Crab. The story of this sign in Greek mythology is one where a crab was crushed under the foot of Heracles, sent by Hera to distract the hero, and whose remains were placed in the sky by Hera, forming the Cancer constellation.
The symbol of the crab can reflect the tension between protection and vulnerability; the soft, emotional inside of the crab which requires a hard, protective outside shell. It is a water sign ruled by the moon; water and the moon both being related to our emotional body. A Cancer moon can bring about a heightened emotional time with a lot of mothering energy. This offers us an opportunity to reflect on the ways in which we welcome our emotions, nurture and protect ourselves and our closest relationships with a strong importance on home and family.
Also called the Wolf Moon or the Center Moon (name used by the Assiniboine people of the Northern Plains) refers to the idea that this moon roughly marks the middle of the cold season and gives the imagery of wolves howling during the hunger of mid-winter.
Why connect with the lunar cycles? What can it bring to our lives?
This is part of the process of re-wilding ~ connecting back to natures rhythms in our everyday lives.
The moon embodies our:
  • emotions
  • desires
  • passive tendencies
  • and our shadows (unconscious)
The full moon illuminates our highest potentials. It is the peak of the Lunar Cycle and heightens our ability to be self-aware of the unconscious psyche (to reveal what was hidden.) The full moon is a time of completion after a period of darkness, the energy is ripe, mature and ready to be expressed or released.
